What does PAR36 mean on the light bulb?

The bulb designation is made up of two designators. The first is “PAR,” which stands for “parabolic aluminized reflector.” This refers to the type of bulb and its housing shape, which is how the bulb achieves its brightness and beam angle. The number 36 refers to the lamp diameter in terms of 1/8-inch increments. In other words, a PAR36 lamp has a diameter of 36/8, or 4.5, inches.

How do I choose the right PAR36 bulb?
