Low-voltage transformers convert 120-volt line voltage into safer voltage levels to be used for your outdoor lighting setup. Unique’s low-voltage transformers deliver on that performance without breaking the bank or compromising on safety. The unit features asingle core design with precision grain-oriented steel laminations for better performance, and each output tap is welded to the mag wire, ensuring a secure connection for long-term use. The transformer’s finished surface meets NEMA 3R enclosure ratings, meaning the internal parts and connections are safely shielded from the elements. The enclosure also ensures that the transformer will continue to perform as intended even if ice forms on the exterior shell, offering year-round peace of mind.
When choosing a transformer, you should note the total wattage of your lighting system. That number should not exceed 80% of the transformer’s capacity. The reason is that this gives the transformer a small window of safety should there be any sudden surges. This rule also ensures that all of your lights function properly at all times.
We recommend inspecting the transformer as part of your lighting maintenance schedule, which should be in between seasons. Check that the connections are still secure and that you are not seeing any frayed wiring. If dirt, debris, or moisture somehow gets inside, turn off the power and clean it out to prevent any potential issues or hazards.
