S14 Bulb FAQs

What does S14 mean?

The S14 designation refers to the overall shape and bulb diameter. In this case, the “S” stands for a “sign” or “straight-sided” bulb shape, and the bulb’s diameter is measured in 1/8-inch increments. Specifically, S14 bulbs have a diameter of 14/8, or 1.75 inches.

Do S14 LED bulbs get hot?

An S14 LED bulb doesn’t get hot to the touch. The focus of LED bulbs on energy efficiency means these bulbs use low wattage and therefore don’t produce the same significant amount of heat seen in incandescent or halogen bulbs.

Why do S14 light bulbs have filament?

The filaments within the S14 bulbs are more of an aesthetic, rather than functional choice. Because of their primary use in string lighting, these S14 LED bulbs include space for the filament to double down on the “old-fashioned” aesthetic evoked with the filaments. Compared to the traditional incandescent light bulbs, however, these LEDs don’t use as much energy and have significantly lower heat output.

Can I recycle S14 LED bulbs?

You can easily recycle light bulbs like S14 LEDs if your local hardware store or municipality offers bulb recycling programs. If local options aren’t available, you can search online for light bulb recycling kits that can be delivered to your home. Specifically, the small amounts of metal and the microchips inside these LED bulbs can be reused in other products.

Can I use S14 bulbs indoors?

Like other LEDs, S14 bulbs are a versatile light bulb and can be used in variety of spaces and applications. While most people associate the bulb with patio lights, you can also bring that same warm, inviting effect into your home. You can use S14 LED bulbs to line a hallway, create a cozy reading nook, or add warm tones to a bedroom.
