You can, but on smooth surfaces, it’s best to showcase the height of the wall because it doesn’t have any texture that can be featured by the light. Grazing lights are meant to show off texture and depth together, but when there’s no texture available, it’s best to lean heavily into the depth angle and give viewers the illusion of high-scaled walls with far-reaching beams.

Where should I place exterior wall grazing lighting?

Grazing lights should be placed close to walls to create a dramatic effect. Positioning them about 6 inches from the surface allows the light to stress textures effectively. For added impact, you can use uplights at the base of the wall or downlights above, further enhancing the visual effect.
