What does ADA compliance mean for lighting?

ADA compliance in lighting means that the bulbs and fixtures are placed at specific heights so as not to make it difficult for those with disabilities to move through spaces. The brightness of the bulbs is also put into consideration and strikes a balance so that it illuminates the pathway without straining anyone’s vision. While these considerations seem like common sense, they are even more important for those who have trouble moving around spaces or need more guidance when moving around at night.

Do I need to conduct maintenance on Alteck lights?

Like all fixtures, Alteck lights will need regular maintenance to stay at peak performance. The actual maintenance procdues can vary, but at the very least it involves ensuring the fixture and bulb is clear of any debris, dirt, or moisture. These particles can affect illumination and performance in the long run so cleaning them out at least once every season can help with performance and the bulb’s overall lifespan.

What are the advantages of flush mount lights?

Flush mount lights are a great choice for outdoor ceiling lighting because they can provide adequate illumination in a small space without being intrusive. As the name suggests, the fixture’s design allows it to nearly blend in with the ceiling, allowing you and your guests to focus on other elements of the space rather than worry about a large fixture potentially blocking the way for activities or simply moving through the area.

What’s the best material for outdoor wall sconces?

Look for brass, copper, or aluminum, all of which are great options for resisting corrosion, a useful trait for outdoor fixtures. Of the three, copper is the most expensive and creates a natural patina over time. Brass and aluminum keep their original look for longer, but the brass patina is more of an aesthetic choice rather than a sign of a degrading fixture.

How high should I place pendant lights?

A great place to start is anywhere between 12 to 20 inches from the ceiling for an 8-foot ceiling. For every foot higher than that, add another 3 inches to the hanging height. Using this example, a 9-foot ceiling should have hanging pendant lights between 15 - 23 inches from the ceiling. You can also use this rule for lower ceilings so a 6-foot ceiling should have a hanging height of 9 - 17 inches.
